Overview

Tuner is a small Windows media player built with Tauri. Import local audio and video, arrange playlists, manage a play queue, and switch to a compact always-on-top Focus window while you work.

From 0.5.4, Connect includes Apple Music above Spotify: search the catalog with no setup, play song previews in Tuner, use the Apple Music embed for longer listening, or open full tracks in Apple Music (optional MusicKit developer token for catalog API search). Also: Podcasts via Apple's public iTunes Search API, Internet Archive for LibriVox audiobooks, free music, and public-domain films—including chapter/file picking—and Audius for free full-length tracks. Live Radio still uses the Radio Browser directory. Optional Spotify covers guest curated playlists or your own playlists after PKCE sign-in with your Client ID.

Tuner ships with 31 bundled themes and remembers your choice between sessions.

Playback

  • Local library import for audio and video (MP4 and WebM via the built-in HTML5 player).
  • Playlists: create, rename, add, remove, and reorder tracks; a queue panel with previous/next transport.
  • Now Playing stage with native media controls and play-style artwork for audio-only sources.
  • Focus mode: a compact always-on-top window (about 440x340) versus the standard 1180x720 layout.

Podcasts and audiobooks

  • Podcasts Connect: search Apple's public iTunes catalog, open shows, and play episode audio in Tuner—no account or API key.
  • Internet Archive audiobooks: LibriVox collection with browse/search and per-file chapter playback.
  • Archive music and public-domain films in the same Connect panel; the panel stays open while you browse and play.

Apple Music and other catalogs

  • Apple Music Connect (above Spotify): zero-setup catalog search, in-app previews, embeds, and Open in Apple Music; optional MusicKit developer token for catalog API search. Full DRM streaming in WebView2 is not available on Windows.
  • Live Radio from the Radio Browser API with local and national (US region) selections and curated stream fallbacks.
  • Audius: free full-length tracks via trending and search, no login.
  • Spotify: guest curated playlists via embeds; optional sign-in (PKCE) for personal playlists using a Spotify Client ID you create in the Spotify Developer Dashboard.

Appearance

  • 31 bundled JSON themes with theme-aware scrollbars and CSS token theming; selection persists.

Who it is for

Anyone who wants a lightweight local player that also reaches podcasts, audiobooks, radio, and free catalogs without clutter.

Use it to

  • Play a local library while coding, with Focus mode pinned above your editor.
  • Search Apple Music and play song previews, or open full tracks in Apple Music / an embed.
  • Search and play podcast episodes, or browse LibriVox audiobooks and chapter files from Internet Archive.

What changed

Apple Music Connect.

Install

  1. Download Tuner-Setup-0.5.4.exe.
  2. The installer is not code-signed. Windows SmartScreen will warn; choose More info, then Run anyway, only after the SHA-256 on this page matches your file.
  3. Verify with PowerShell: Get-FileHash .\Tuner-Setup-0.5.4.exe -Algorithm SHA256

Remove

  • Use Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Tuner > Uninstall. Library and playlist data lives under %APPDATA%\com.tuner.app.

Known limitations

  • Windows only.
  • The installer is not code-signed; SmartScreen will show a warning. Verify the SHA-256 before running.
  • Apple Music, Podcasts, Archive, Audius, Live Radio, and Spotify need internet access and depend on those third-party services.
  • Apple Music in Tuner plays previews and embeds; full DRM streaming requires the Apple Music app or an embed session.
  • Podcast discovery uses the public iTunes Search API and episode stream URLs; it is not Apple Podcasts account sync.
  • Audiobooks are LibriVox titles on Archive.org, not a commercial audiobook store.
  • Personal Spotify playlists require your own Spotify developer Client ID.

Selecting a download while signed out takes you to sign-in and returns you to this exact file. Downloads on this site are counted as "authorized transfers", never as installations.
